Desert Island music picks

Totally non myth related but thank you Frum for the idea.

Ok...If you had 10 musical groups/performers/composers whatever - from the beginning of time till now - to take with you on a desert island for you and Wilson to enjoy...who would they be?

Wow tough question. Do I get to pick entire catalogs or just individual albums?

If it's entire catalogs, the only 2 I would know for sure would have to go with we would be:

1) Jonathan Richman
2) The Beatles...

hmmm. after that it gets hard to pick just a single artist, lots of individual albums I like a ton, but not as many entire catalogs stand out as as have-to-have... but since those 2 artists alone must have like 30+ albums I might have used up my picks...

----------------------

Now if I could pick representative samplers (like instead of 10 years worth of a group, 10 similar-sized collections of music in a genre) I would round out the list with some

3) 80's punk/newWave or 80's inspired bands (sex pistols, clash, new order, joy division, Devo, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Green Day, The Killers, The Cranberries, etc)

4) 70's progressivish and/or more popish rock; Yes, PeterGabriel-Genesis, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty.

5) Some top 10 classical; i.e. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, etc

6) some rootsy folk (Johhny Cash, Bright Eyes, Allison Krause, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Dolly Parton (her bluegrass stuff), Innocence Mission

7) recordings by family and friends

8) "weird stuff" (as my kids would call it) Blond Redhead, PortisHead, Dead Can Dance, Yola Tengo, etc

heh, have I used up my picks yet?

On a desert island? Would have to be the Beach Boys in their prime.
2: I wouldn't take any classical composers because all the good ones like Beethoven and Saint Saems don't speak english and the communication problems would annoy the hell out of me.

I'd go for a nice blend.
1:Greenday for comedy value
2:sum41 for entertainment
3:christina aguileria because it gets lonely and she's dirrty
4:yeah yeah yeahs (another chick) and we have similar personalities
5:mr.bungle cos those guys are weird and i think they'd be fun
6:henry rollins band cos henry rollins is funny as hell
7:dropkick murphys because i'm irish and they love the irish (i would be their king)
8:nirvana to see them struggling with cold turkey (no drugs on a desert island)
9:jane's addiction, just because :)
10:the corrs; irish, 3 chicks. Was gonna say snow patrol because they're irish but they s00k (not as much as Ash though). I like to have someone with a similar accent and knows all the colloquial slang.
