Not completely validated, but thought this was interesting...pretty huge life(s)-long committment when you have one of these guys as a pet

Mid 18th century??? This little devil was the pet of a British officer *before* the American revolution.

But I could see them swapping in another tortoise if the original one passed away shortly after they first got it (like on it's 135th birthday)...

What are the odds of a post-mortem? :)
