OoH Outage

Postby Baak » Sun Jan 28, 2007 12:13 pm

Seems our server went South last night (perfect timing...) but is all better now.

Sorry 'bout that. #-o

Funny... PlayMyth had problems (and still seemed a little sluggish last night), the OoH Server died, and we had a few machines at a project I'm involved with shutdown two nights ago.

Spooky...

I'm sick of playmyth's 'when our server goes down we come back' message. Its a cheap shot at MariusNet that's not really necessary given all the trouble that occurred in the past.

I had a slideshow at the end of Swinehart (love that pick btw), then a total freeze. I had trouble getting on playmyth after, not sure if it was my end or PM, either way called it a match. Was fun while it lasted.

Yeah, it seemed very sluggish.

Sorry you got blasted, but figured you had called it a night. That was very fun to play Swineherd Stampede on StoneHeart RDF! An MT pick! :) Will have to play that one again and can also play the team version on one of the many two-starts there - muhahahahahahaaaaaa...

Looks like I exceeded our disk storage for the OoH Site which was likely causing the outage. I'm planning on upgrading the site soon(tm), so this shouldn't be a problem in the future.

I just assumed you were afraid to play anymore once I arrived.

Well, it may not be a topic for public discussion, but unless you reviving your "I will mirror the entire internet" project you discussed a while ago, you sure have me wondering what the hell you have stored on the OoH server that used up all the space.

ps. did you see site5's new $5/month plan where if you signup for 100 years they'll let you store an unlimited amount of stuff? ;)

pps. Is it just me or do companies that try to get you to sign a multi-year paid 100% at the time of the signing make you a little skittish? They aleays strike me as a little pyramid-schemish... since bt next year they won't have any money coming in to support YOUR account, they'll HAVE to expand their client base to get NEW people to pay existing people's accounts...

Aye, I'm actually looking into moving to the 5/55/5 (whatever) plan for the short term. Not really in the mood to try an entirely new host just yet.

My understanding with them is there is no problem cancelling early - they pro-rate refund any remaining time - so I'm seriously considering doing the two-year deal because the cost is just slightly more than one-year right now but with at least 5x the space and bandwidth.

I've been storing multiple incremental backups from multiple projects and the sum total of all the zips for Myth etc just added up. 11GB isn't that much after all - was actually at 13.2 GB.

What I need to do now that I have cleaned out the really silly stuff (like everything from the BP unzipped in *another* folder), is to download huge chunks of the archives, burn them off to multiple DVD's and store them in multiple sites.

Correct. I couldn't take the chance you would pick a DM game.

A few games before I dropped we played BODYCOUNT DEATHMATCH - where my ending damage was less then -5,000. Flare dorfs spawning admist smoking flares is not a good thing. I *almost* managed to have one escape, but alas he too was blown to bits.

I nearly was caught in that Flare-Dorf-DM-Deathtrap thing myself. I'll get the films posted (hopefully later tonight - haven't received any from after I left).

I used that F-D-D-D effect in the snapshot for Flare Dorfs themselves on the OoH Downloads page. You'll notice it's from StoneHeart RDF. Once it got rolling (I wasn't expecting it and started laughing when it did!), I decided it would make a perfect picture to sum up Flare Dorfs! :)

DM starts like are hilarious. I was cracking just watching the carnage before trying to escape.

I think the only reason I finally escaped was because I had less than six guys re-spawning at my start and they were all dying at once.

If you get enough of 'em, and they are dying at slightly different times (thus dropping their flares irregularly), it's tough to escape.

I kept pressing Return (select all visible) then B (spread apart) as fast as I could.

Funny too, it almost becomes a "fascinated by fire" effect where it's more fun to watch it happen than it is to stop. 8)
