Well it was a masterful effort and achievement at staying alive so long, but one could argue that if you don't need units to survive to win the game and the ball was tagged and out of bounds in the first 5 minutes everything after that WAS prolonging the inevitable - once the ball was out of bounds their was no possibility of altering the game's outcome.

of course then again I will hide a lone surviving thrall underwater and wait till the last 15 secs to emerge in a LMOTH game even when the team unit% is 97% - 1% so I am not the most impartial judge of what's acceptable.

I think that mb you do have to be alive at the end in bacon. You'll still get the check for the ball being your color, but I am thinking that Perm will show the win to the other guys. They even said something like "Now we have to eliminate them."

Bacon is definitely my favorite. I love trying to gauge escape routes and avoid enemies while driving the ball around; Oh, or!-- it's great to sneak into the thick of it and then just walk out with the ball (everyone left standing around: "huh?!") I also like the ol' wightblast thing :) (very frumious, that one!)

Funny that when you run the ball, people will cry about it as if it's bad form! OoH doesn't, of course--we understand what it's all about. But other people will actually complain if you run it and no one can catch up, heh. Fewls. What do they think, it's lmoth? Should ppl hold still with their assassin unit on assassin as well? Of course not! Do what you must to own that thing at the end, I say.

That's what I was thinking Frum, but since I win so rarely I often forget the basic rules on how to win a game. hmmm... now that I think of it I wonder if maybe the forgetting how to win has any relation to how often I win? naaaaah!

Those people who complain are probably the same people who complain when you attack the "wrong" person on a game of CTF on gimble. Apparently there is a precise approved order for who is supposed to attack who. Cries of "double-teamer!" and worse resound whenever I found myself in ranked games. One of my favorite games of all time was a game of BC on raid and I didn't take a Myrkridian giant. I loaded up on artillery and the first giant that strolled in not seeing any giant around so thinking my melee were unprotected got a rather nasty suprise when he was hit by multiple lock blasts and mortars. It was short game for but very satisfying.

I had to double-check this! What I discovered was very interesting!

I would have sworn that you did NOT have to live in order to win a Bacon game, but instead it's a bit more subtle:
  • With 2-team games you DO have to live to win - thus the game becomes "Last Man Standing" - HOW COOL IS THAT?!! I NEVER KNEW THIS!
  • With FFA games you DO NOT have to live to win - this is the way I thought it always worked and is why I think it's such a great game! :D

Now I am wondering if Bacon is the ONLY game where this is true. I think so. The flag version of Bacon is LMOTH, but I believe you ALWAYS must live to win there (I think because the game continues until there is only one team left, but now I will have to double-check a FFA LMOTH game where a team that dies is the last to tag the flag and be sure. I'm 99% sure the survivor wins even if they didn't tag last BECAUSE the game ends at that point (I seem to recall VR winning this way on a SHRDF game a year or two ago where I was the one who tagged last but then died - he was the lone survivor)).

If you want to see the FFA Bacon "no survivors but still wins" scenario, you can grab the mother of all films: "Baak's Steal" from the OoH Hall of Fame section (we'll have to add Frum's Wight Blasts on there). It's 1.3 but will still play. Fast forward to the last minute. I'm blue/red in that game but the Jman has red on him (before the Magma patches, the Jman showed the secondary color as primary - may still for all I know). You'll see at the end that I get the check mark and am listed at the top as winner, but have 0% remaining. Sweet.

What was even funnier: that night I had won either 2 or 3 bacon games in a row before that and was 100% in the groove. You can see that reflected in the chat - I am getting cocky! This made the "steal at last second then die yet win" so sweet I can still taste it today! ;)

Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't LMOTH behave the same way as the above two scenarios (2-Team and FFA) listed for Bacon?

That is, in FFA LMOTH you could tag the flag and die but if no one else tags it before the clock runs out - and there are at least two teams left - you can still win with 0%. Isn't that correct?
